They consider it a great value with no monthly fee, and one customer notes it works well for half the price of Ring alternatives. Battery life receives mixed reviews – while some find it great, others report it depletes too fast.

Great video doorbell. But then again, are you surprised? It is TP-Link, after all.
I’ll write more below, but here’s the bottom line: Yes, you should buy this doorbell. It absolutely beats the competitors in this area, including the one made by the company whose shopping platform you’re using right now (rhymes with “Sing”). I can’t say I’m surprised this doorbell is so good, though. TP-Link clearly thinks carefully about its products and works hard to put out high-quality stuff (I have several other items from TP-Link, and I’ve always been pleased at how reliable and high-quality their stuff is).Additional details:-Price point is excellent (just under $50 as of the time of this review). Extremely fair. These seem to be on sale regularly, so if you see it listed for a considerably higher price and you can wait, you might want to consider holding off for a bit and coming back a little later to see if they are on sale.-Set up and installation are a breeze and connectivity is great.-Motion detection is great, and you can configure sensitivity and areas for detection. It also supports person detection, vehicle detection, and animal detection (each of which can be further configured with the same options, either as a group so everything has the same settings or independent from one another). I’ve not tested the vehicle or animal detection, but the person detection is quite good. And if you’re getting false positives, you can give the doorbell feedback and it will improve. You can also, of course, tweak the sensitivity of detection. But it’s nice to see TP-Link include the option to help train the doorbell. The training occurs locally, for your doorbell only (i.e., it doesn’t mean your images will then be sent to the cloud or their servers and used to train their algorithms centrally; they respect your privacy).-You can opt in to their subscription service if you want cloud recording, but I specifically sought out doorbell cameras that permitted local storage only (which is what I favor). Even with local storage, the doorbell is very responsive.-Video quality is excellent. The camera also has an “auto” feature when live streaming to give the highest resolution that makes sense for your connection speed and strength at the time of viewing.-Audio quality is similarly great. It also supports different modes of talking through the doorbell. One works sort of like a walkie-talkie, and one works more like a video call. Answering doorbell rings works like a video call. But you can sneak a peek at who is at your doorbell before “officially” answering (it’ll turn audio and video on on the doorbell, but keep your mic muted so they won’t know you’re screening who’s at your door).-Battery life is good. I’ve seen some complaints about battery life, but I suspect this comes from people not fully charging their doorbell or using it all the time. There’s no such thing as infinite battery!Bottom line: If you buy this, I’m confident you’ll wonder why you didn’t make the move sooner. Say goodbye to whatever competitor version you might have and come on in, the water’s just fine. Or, if this is your first foray into smart doorbells, you’re in for a treat with this as your introduction.

Excellent doorbell with a few minor issues
I installed this by hardwiring it. The setup was easy for both the doorbell and its chime. It is working great. The video image is an ultra wide angle fisheye view. This means that people that are within say 10′ are very clear but those that are further away appear quite small and when magnified lack clarity. This is fine for viewing people at your door but if you want to use this doorbell camera as a security camera for your yard it may not be the best choice.I have set up the doorbell for person and package detection and it works excellent for person and package detection. The one issue that I am having is that when I select “Doorbell Mode” in the Night Mode settings, which turns on the doorbell spotlight when the doorbell is pressed so that you can see a colored video of the person at your door, doesn’t turn off automatically like it is supposed to when there isn’t any motion detected. My D225 leaves doorbell spotlight on which disables the infrared LEDs. This compromises night motion detection. I have to go into the TP-Link app to turn it off by changing the night mode setting to “infrared Mode”. I would like this to work without me having to manually turn it off. I am hoping that this is a software issue that can be fixed via an update. The doorbell on my house was installed several feet to the side of my door and there are 5 stairs leading up to the door. In order to get the camera to point in the right direction I had to use both of the included wedges. Unfortunately they weren’t designed to be stackable. I got around this by gluing the two wedges together using Testors plastic cement. Overall I would recommend this doorbell camera. I would rate it at 4.5* because of the night mode issue mentioned above but gave it 5* because of its value and easy install.

Great All Around Doorbell
I’m really impressed with the Tapo D225 Smart Video Doorbell! It wirelessly connects to my home network without any issues, and the setup was super easy. I love that it has hardwire capability, so I never have to worry about charging—it’s always ready to go. Plus, the battery power is a great backup in case there’s a power outage, which gives me peace of mind. The video quality is outstanding, with full-color night vision that works brilliantly, even in low light. The Ring Call feature is a huge plus—now I never miss a notification, no matter where I am. The AI detection works well, providing accurate alerts when someone approaches, and I really appreciate the local storage option—no need for a subscription. The only downside for me is the 180-degree camera view, which has too much of a “fish eye” effect, but overall, it’s a minor issue compared to all the amazing features. I highly recommend this doorbell for anyone looking for a reliable, high-quality security solution!

Awesome camera for the price!
Absolutely love this camera for the price.Came from Wyze cameras, and this camera has very good picture quality. The night vision function works really well. The Tapo app is very responsive and easy to use, something I had issues with on Wyze. The camera even has the ability to use an SD card, something that a lot of battery operated cameras do not allow. The battery lasts 2-3 months at a time which eliminates the need to charge it all the time. You can also disable the LED which helps keep the camera less noticeable (if you want that). When someone presses the doorbell button, your phone rings as if someone is calling you, which works really well.Another plus is that the Tapo subscriptions are much cheaper than some of their competitors.

Our last video doorbell kept switching off and not working so got this instead and is already proving to be the best value.Easy to install, microSD card storage means no need for online subscription services, with a 256gb card will keep well over a year of recorded video clips, it can take up to 512gb!.The motion detection is fully customizable with plenty of options which make it very powerful however the interface is extremely easy to use, making it a quick and simple task to set up all important areas to monitor and ignore the areas that have constant traffic so you are not constantly alerted every time a car drives past. The included remote chime just plugs into any outlet and can be heard from anywhere in our house, battery is good for a month of use on a charge and it can run directly off the current from the original doorbell, just bypass the chime so there is a constant current.Video quality is great, slight delay but I’ve never seen one with true real time to your phone. No network connectivity issues at all.Oh and works with Both Android and Apple.
