Favorite file boxes!
I have ordered this product multiple times. I like that they are clear so you can see what’s inside, and I love that you can add smaller items on the top snap compartment. I like to use hanging file folder, and they fit perfectly in these. I do wish they were a little larger because it does not hold a lot. They are great for traveling. Sometimes the latch does break and then the entire file box is useless. That said, I will purchase them again in the future! Why? Because they help keep me organized in my office!

Reasonably sturdy file box. We have three of this kind, two of them from a few years ago and they hold up reasonably well, and include an accessories compartment on top for things like paper clips.If the box is well loaded and latch is not on perfectly, it slips off the catch and the lid opens, and it can break.We have other file boxes with better latches (two of them spaced apart) and they work much better (they latch in better) and hold better (with the weight distributed over two latches).So, I can’t give this product a 5 because the latches are not great compared to other brands, Other than that, they’re good… until the latch breaks, and then they’re difficult to lift (you have to grab underneath with both hands).

Easy to use and holds files and documents securely with solid sides, sturdy lid and latch. They won’t ‘nest’ but are narrow enough to sit side by side and not block off too much shelf space.Priced reasonably for four units which allowed me to designate two for more long term records storage and two for more accessible current documentation.

IRIS USA File Boxes
I ordered the set of 4 file boxes. Two of the lids for the storage sections were broken off. That compartment is useless without the lids. I found IRIS on google and wrote to them. They sent me 2 replacement file boxes, quickly and no charge. On one of my boxes, I just pressed the foam liner further into the grove and the box closed easier. Would buy from this American company again. The file boxes are perfect for use in my basement which needs a dehumidifier. I know my papers will be safe and dry.

Adequate product, but if you are picky, may not meet your needs
I had to return this product for just one reason. It was difficult for me to open. I know that sounds silly, but if I am going to have to open and close this item frequently, I want it to be smooth and easy. It may have been that the plastic was a little cold from travel? But the location I planned to place it would be cold sometimes (garage) – so that could be a problem for me. I read a lot of different reviews both positive and negative, and wasn’t sure if this product would work for me since some claimed it was not very sturdy. My conclusion is that if you need something inexpensive that you don’t have to open frequently – this could work great. It is just “sturdy enough”. I would not call it flimsy at all. But I would also not call it heavy duty – it is someplace in between. But if you want something for frequent use, it may not be optimal. Here’s what was good about this product: it was fairly sturdy, the hinge might possibly be a little flimsy, but I did not get to test this over time since I sent it right back. The small storage area on top seemed to work fine and opened and closed fine (but I actually wasn’t planning on using that part). I did test if files hung inside ok, and that was great – they fit perfectly. Here’s what I felt was not as well done: The main latch did not open in an intuitive way for me as it opened in the opposite way I was expecting. It opens down. I actually was afraid I was going to break it and then noticed that there were small bumps on the bottom/side edges indicating a hinge. Once I knew to pull down, it opened, but not without some struggle. If you have a weak grip this could be a problem. Also, I planned to have it on the ground in the location where I was going to use it and would have to lean down to open it and place items inside. This made the difficulty opening it more problematic. The leverage was all wrong – at least for me. The unit also does not have the right balance. When empty and the top is opened fully it very nearly tips over backwards – but not quite. Once lots of files are in, I am sure this would not be a problem, however, but if you don’t plan to keep it very full this instability might be annoying, as it might be prone to getting accidentally knocked over if it was sitting open. I was disappointed this could not work for me, but would be willing to try a newer version of this product if they made the latch more user friendly.
